Global Investors Reaffirm the Case for Systemic Stewardship

Our Director, Jackson Rowland, was invited to speak about the Aotearoa New Zealand Stewardship Code at the International Corporate Governance Network’s 30th Anniversary Conference in New York, where global investors discussed how to sustain effective stewardship amid political turbulence.

While stewardship had undoubtedly become more complex in some regions, the conviction in it’s importance from New York City’s Comptroller, Brad Lander, was clear: “If we don’t do systemic stewardship, we’ll lose billions of dollars in value.”

In Jackson’s remarks, he emphasised that maintaining both capacity and conviction is essential - investors need the mandate, resources, and courage to continue engaging on systemic risks even when the policy environment becomes more difficult.
