Investor Engagement Masterclass Webinar

2023 saw ‘corporate engagement and shareholder action’ become NZ’s most common responsible investment strategy for the first time, overtaking negative screens. 2023 also saw majority of NZ’s assets under management sign up to the Aotearoa New Zealand Stewardship Code, a framework designed to help investors to use their influence to steer the companies they own on critical ESG issues. Kiwi investors are increasingly interested in engaging with companies to support them to navigate risks and opportunities.

And this reflects increasing global interest in this area too, with the UK Stewardship Code having almost 300 signatories, the Australian Government recently consulting on how they can support stewardship, and investors globally increasing their resourcing and priority on investor engagements.

But what does all this mean for a market like New Zealand, with our strong relationship focus, small number of large companies, and investors with limited resources? This public Masterclass from the Aotearoa New Zealand Stewardship Code will bring together investor stewardship and engagement experts to discuss these questions, and what it all means for companies, directors and investors.

Panellists: Ian Matheson, CEO, Australasia Investor Relations Association Lucy Cooper, Partner, Chapman Tripp Rachel Tinkler, Head of Responsible Investment, Mint & RIAA ACWG Co-chair Rebekah Swan, Responsible Investment Advisor, Fisher Funds Richard Proudlove, Director of Corporate Engagement, IGCC Moderator: Jackson Rowland, Director, Aotearoa New Zealand Stewardship Code
